Jack – Man of Science, Man of Faith Darlton in the Episode Commentary of the Season 2 opening episode stated that Jack was both “The Man of Science” AND “The Man of Fate”. Throughout this series Jack has seen miracles like the healing of his wife. This caused him to believe for awhile. But like most when they have to see to believe when the problems of the world hit them they soon forget the reason for believing. It is when we take the leap without seeing firsthand that our faith grows.
In this episode Jack had to trust in the grand scheme of things and take a few steps into the darkness before he was lead by the light (or the lamppost) It will be interesting to see what kind of Jack emerges when he arrives on the island. I believe that having taken the steps on his own will result in a stronger Jack. He will be the leader that Locke told him that he needed to be in “The White rabbit”.
The island has always been a place to change to become better or to be reborn. As an example of this Hurley, Jack & Kate all ether landed in or jumped in water kind like baptism. In season two Charlie tried to baptize Aaron along with a few other baptism references. Even Locke’s letter was a chastisement or an exhortation to repentance. “I wish that you would have believed.” The Apostles had a hard time believing that Jesus would be resurrected they knew that he was the Savior, but still had a hard time believing that he would come back. Jack received the same chastisement. Reading that chastisement and realizing that he needed to believe along with the rest of the OC 6 taking their own leap of faith caused the chain reaction that brought them back to the island and redemption for leaving.
Narnia – You never come to Narnia the same way twice The first time they came to the island their airplane crashed because Desmond didn’t push the button. There was a huge crash and somehow all of them survived. I’m not sure what exactly caused them to arrive this time, but this time there was no crash. The OC 6, Ben & Frank were transported to the island. In both Lost & Narnia the main characters ended up where they need to be at a different time then when they originally came.
Random Thoughts I loved Frank’s reaction to seeing the rest of the OC 6 on the plane and expressing that they weren’t going to Guam.
I also loved Michael Giacchino’s music. Especially when they were boarding the plane. The same music was played when they entered 815, but with more suspense added. His music has always been awesome.
