King of the World? More like King of the Universe.
Here's one more feather in his Na'vi cap: James Cameron's space-themed Pocahontas tale dominated last night's Saturn Awards, taking home Best Science Fiction Film, Best Director, Best Writer and Best Actor and Actress for stars Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana, who played the marine grunt sent to Pandora and the Na'vi princess he falls for, respectively.
The ceremony, which took place in Burbank, honors the most accomplished works in the sci-fi, fantasy, thriller and horror genres and the Titanic helmer has long been a mainstay. In fact, Avatar marks a personal triumph for Cameron who holds the mark for most Saturn victories, having won twice for directing and writing. He was also feted with the Visionary Award.
All in all, the blue-tinted blockbuster won 10 trophies including Best Supporting Actor and Actress for Stephen Lang and Sigourney Weaver, Best Music for composer James Horner and Best Production Design and Special Effects (natch) to the team of Joe Letteri, Stephen Rosenbaum, Richard Baneham and Andrew R. Jones.
Other notable winners on the film side: Watchmen, which snagged Best Fantasy flick, and Sam Raimi's Drag Me To Hell, which was named Best Horror film. While Quentin Tarantino's WWII revenge fantasy thriller Inglourious Basterds took a scalp of its own, Best Action-Adventure thriller, last summer's surprise hit District 9 scored Best International Film, and Monsters and Aliens landed Best Animation prize.
On the tube side, while Lost gets ready to enjoy a long after-life in syndication, its final season found the acclaimed ABC serial mystery earning a Saturn for Best Network TV Series while star Josh Holloway quipped his way to a Best TV Actor win for his role as everyone's favorite con-man, James "Sawyer" Ford.
Not to be outdone, J.J. Abrams' other baby, Fringe, garnered kudos for Best TV Actress for Anna Torv and Star Trek's Leonard Nimoy for Best Actor in a guest-starring role. While Breaking Bad broke in with Best Syndicated/Cable Television Series.
For making one of the best sequels of all time in The Empire Strikes Back and bringing unexpected depth and heartfelt emotion to George Lucas' space opera franchise among other cinematic achievements, veteran filmmaker Irvin Kershner was honored with the Life Career Award, appropriately enough on the Star Wars film's 30th anniversary.
The big loser of the night? Guy Ritchie's amped up take on Sherlock Holmes which uncovered eight nominations but walked away empty-handed.

My experience as a Lost Blogger
First off I just want to thank you all for following and supporting me as I have strived to share news, spoilers, art and other things about this awesome show! Its been an incredible experience doing this and more importantly getting to know all of you in comments made here in various forms at Ain't It Cool, Lost For Life, Room 23 forums and meeting you in person at Comic-Con, D-23, ARG events and other places.
6 years ago Lost came out and I was actually watching Smallville and didn't want to add another show to my list. LOL I saw the Jack/Hurley scene where Hurley fainted while trying to help Jack fix the Marshall and it intrigued me. So during the Summer between Seasons 1 and 2 ABC aired reruns of most of Season 1 so I watched the Pilot and I was hooked for good. I watched the reruns and checked out the DVDs for the unaired ones. Come Season 2 I was so excited to see what was in the Hatch and if Kate would survive going down in the hatch (the trailers for the premiere had her go down and then a guillotine sound and her screaming LOL) I was in the rare minority that absolutely loved Season 2.
All of this eventually lead to my hanging out at Ain't It Cool talkbacks discussing the new episodes and doing watchbacks during the breaks and soon after I created this blog as a means to share news and spoilers with friends there. I had no idea that it would turn out to be something a lot bigger. A group of us ran it and it was a really fun experience. Over the years different people have come and gone, its been great getting to know all of them.
I can't say that Lost has changed my life, but I can definitely say that its added a lot to my life. I have related most to Locke and Jack with their test of faith and different points in their character arcs. I'm like Jack since I'm stubborn and Locke because of my faith in things to a fault. I have loved being able to hang out with all of you and to get to know you better. I have loved creating Lost designs and have appreciated all of your support and kind words. Its been an awesome ride, one that I hope to keep going for as long as possible.
I have many plans for the next few months and beyond. First off I plan on keeping Room 23 going with reports on what projects the actors and writers are up to along with info on the upcoming Season 6 DVD, The DK Lost Encyclopedia and more. I also plan on making a few cosmetic changes. Also Room 23 forums will continue to run as a place to discuss Lost and other things Troll free. http://room23.freeforums.org/index.php FlashForward is almost dead and gone unfortunately, I was planing on making the Mosaic Collective blog my new blog. So because of my love for another JJ Abrams show I plan on creating a Fringe blog and am even thinking of maybe a GLEE blog.?.?.?
Anyways as for Room 23 Store I am definitely keeping that going. There are tons of Lost characters to design for Trading cards with the Others, Dharma and other groups along with more Fringe and GLEE characters. I plan on finally doing some shirts on CafePress and eventually a 3 dimensional Trading Cards holder in the shape of the swan hatch! Plus much more. So keep coming back, because we have tons more in store! Thank you all for everything that you done to add to Room 23 by just being here!

'Fringe': What did you think of J.J. Abrams' latest?

Stuff I thought was cool in last night's pilot for J.J. Abrams' Fringe on Fox:
• Lance Reddick's spooky cranium. First thing in the ep I saw that made me cheer out loud.
• That translucent-skin ailment. Gross, but really cool.
• The cow walking through the halls of Harvard.
• The whole immersion tank scenario. I was thinking, "How very Altered States." And then, a few minutes later, who shows up but Altered States star Blair Brown. With a ROBOTIC ARM. Well played, sirs, well played.
Stuff I was less impressed with:
• Star Anna Torv, who strikes me so far as the poor person's Kelly Lynch.
• The opening midair disaster. C'mon, J.J., you've been there, done that.
• Those 3D title cards. They were novel the first time I saw them -- at the opening of Panic Room. Less so after 90 minutes of repeated use here.
• The "Pattern" conspiracy/mythology. So far, awfully thin gruel to fuel the entire plot of this series, though it's easy to see how it'll offer a plausible excuse for Torv & Co. to explore other weird X-Files-ish phenomena. I can also see how it'll be loose enough to allow for stand-alone episodes that could draw casual viewers who aren't wrapped up in the mythology.
Overall, I thought the pilot started out slow and routine, but it definitely picked up when Reddick showed up and Torv's Agt. Olivia Dunham recruited the Bishops (John Noble and Joshua Jackson, pictured). There's a lot of potential in the chemistry among the three leads -- naive but open-minded Olivia, giddy mad scientist Walter, and skeptical, street-smart Peter. The characters are going to need a lot more fleshing out; fortunately, Abrams is the king of backstory. Watch for a full, official review of Fringe from our TV critics in a forthcoming issue of EW. Meanwhile, I'll be tuning in next week. How about you?
