Kaneohe Bay = Season Finale Pier

Jeff stopped at a park area near the water in Kaneohe Bay and across the water he pointed out was the pier where the season 2 finale was shot where Jack, Sawyer, Kate & Hurley were captured and Michael was set free with Walt. It was also the place where Sun, Jin & Sayid lost Desmond's boat and Sun shot the Other Coleen. Unfortunately the Pier was private property so we weren't able to actually go on it. I was a little disappointed since I wanted to pretend that I had a bag over my head and was captured by the Others!

If you look near the right side of the photo below you can see a white thing at the end of the pier, the crew had made it and the owner told them not to bother taking it down. But since it was just made to last long enough for the shot it has since fallen down. Its the Pala Ferry covering behind the picture of Sun.

MOLI'I GARDEN = (Exterior) Sayid's service in South America

This is where they shot the outside scenes of the building that Eko entered and ended up slitting the throats of a bunch of African Drug Warlords. It was also the outside shot of when Sayid was working on a roof in South America and Locke/Jeremy Bentham visits him to try to convince him to return to the island.

Kaaawa Valley/Kualoa Ranch = Goodwin's Death

These were the logs that Goodwin & Ana Lucia sat on when Ana Lucia was trying to interigate him, while they shared a mango.

This was the hill that they rolled down

and where he landed on a stick.

Its also the area where Ben proclaimed his love to Juliet by shooting "Your Mine!"

This is where Jack & Ben sat down for a meeting right after running into each other on the way to the radio tower. its right next to the Jughead structure.

YMCA Camp Erdman = Dharmaville/New Otherton

Dharmaville/New Otherton was filmed at the YMCA Camp Erdman which is a youth camp for those who don't have the financial resources to afford to go to a summer camp. Its to bad that Ben didn't know that otherwise he wouldn't have needed to steal kids from the Survivors Camp. LOL The funny thing is that about one block away is where they filmed the Survivor Camp and a block in the opposite direction is where they shot the Tailies Beach camp.

Interior of the building that was used in the Dharma days to process new recruits.

DVD preview: What can we expect from 'Lost: The Complete Collection'?

Jun 23, 2010

Today I got an in-person sneak preview of one of the most anticipated DVD releases of the year: Lost: The Complete Collection. The 37-disc set looks pretty spectacular ... and so do the bonus features.

First off, let's just take a look at this set, out Aug. 24 (from Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment):

Here's a photo of the 'Lost: The Complete Series' DVD set, out Aug. 24.
CAPTIONWalt Disney Studios Home Entertainment
It comes in a black box that looks big enough to contain a board game -- and it does! The set comes with a fold-out Senet board and black and bags of white rocks. It also contains a small black light, which is a little puzzling; I was told there are some elements to the set fans will have to "figure out for themselves." Intriguing.

The episode guide wasn't available for preview, but it's also part of the set, as is the ankh and the island replica. Here's a pic I took today for another view:

Here's another view of the 'Lost: The Complete Series' DVD set, out Aug. 24.
CAPTIONWhit's iPhone
As for bonus features, I watched part of the "Slapdowns," where celebrities/Muppets face Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse. In a feature called "Letting Go," the cast reflects on the series, and we see the empty post-Lost set. (Naveen Andrews looks quite fetching in that one.)

Lost University also returns with the release of The Complete Collection and Complete Sixth and Final Season. Fans/graduates will now be able to take part in a "master's program" that focuses more on theology, rather than last year's program, which included a lot of science and time travel. One not-to-miss course: "Exploring Spanish with Nestor Carbonell."

Finally, most of us can't wait for the "new chapter" of Lost -- 12 minutes of never-before-seen footage from Lindelof and Cuse. (Note: This is also available on the Season 6 set.) I was treated to one minute of this. I begged to see more, but no dice.

I don't want to reveal too many spoilers, and there are some spoilers from that 60 seconds, including the "when" and "where." But I will tell you the clip I saw featured Michael Emerson and "Dharma peas." Draw your own conclusions.

The DVD collection costs $229.99, while the Blu-ray discs will set you back $279.99. According to the box, it contains 5,074 minutes of material about Lost. Start clearing your calendar! I smell a marathon (and fish biscuits).

Kristen E!: Lost Epilogue With Hurley and Ben Revealed!

Today 3:15 PM PDT by Kristin Dos Santos

One more reason to love Michael Emerson: He just spilled the goods on an amazing surprise for any Lost fan planning to buy the final, sixth-season DVD. (And trust me, now all of you will be buying it.)

There will be more Lost. There is more to the story, and we will get to see it! Praise Jacob! Or should we say...Hurley?!

"For those people that want to pony up and buy the complete Lost series, there is a bonus feature," Michael just told our Kevin Pereira of Attack of the Show!, which airs tonight at 7 on E!'s brother network G4. "Which is um, you could call it an epilogue. A lost scene. It's a lot; it's 12 or 14 minutes that opens a window onto that gap of unknown time between Hurley (Jorge Garcia) becoming number one and the end of the series."

Michael says this extra footage is not the premise for a spinoff. "It's self-contained. Although, it's a rich period in the show's mythology that ‘s never been explored, so who knows what will come of it."

That said, as I reported earlier, we'll find out what happens to Walt on the DVD as well. And so for the last time ever (sniff!), I think I get to say, Lost spoiler alert! Whatcha wanna bet that during Hurley and Ben's adventures on the island, they run into Walt a few years into the future, when he's oh, 18 and looking just as Malcolm David Kelley looks now?

Oh, genius show, I love you. Why must you make it so hard to let go? Just as we're trying to say good-bye, you dangle this most excellent carrot!

See all you fellow fans in the overnight campout line for the Lost season-six DVD.

Lost's Michael Emerson Injured During Filming

Tue., Mar. 23, 2010 1:15 PM PDT by Marc Malkin

Michael Emerson gets beat up a lot playing Ben Linus on Lost.

So much so that when friends recently saw the Emmy winner sporting a major bruise in Hawaii, they thought it was fake and possibly just some leftover makeup from a day of shooting.

But, no, it was real. What happened? Read on for the painful details.

"He has a huge shiner on his right eye!" a source reports. "Apparently, he has a fight scene and the choreography when slightly awry. One of his costars actually connected with Michael's face and gave him a huge black eye."

You'd think the real-life injury would be incorporated into the Lost storyline, but our source said, "Michael joked that the makeup department now has to hide his black eye every day instead of creating one."

Michael Emerson on The Bonnie Hunt Show

'Lost': Michael Emerson says teacher role 'has a big meaning'

by Wendy Mitchell

If you missed Michael Emerson on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night, check out the video below. The man who plays Lost’s Ben Linus (or, as Kimmel suggests, ‘Ben Lini’) says that last night’s appearance as a history teacher in the Sideways world wasn’t a throwaway. “I don’t think it’s just some mild departure. I think it has a big meaning that will play out as we go,” Emerson told Kimmel, before adding: “You have no idea what’s coming in that particular storyline.” Oooh, juicy! Despite not having read the final scripts, Emerson assured fans: “You’re going to have a satisfying conclusion to the series.”

I can usually keep an actor separate in my mind from his or her character, but I can’t do this with Emerson — he IS Ben Linus to me. If I saw him on the street I might have a panic attack. Anyone else think that Emerson will forever be associated with creepy Ben?

‘Lost’s Michael Emerson: ‘Smokey’ Can’t Kill Ben

by Matt Webb Mitovich
Feb 8th, 2010 11:46 PM

ABC’s ‘Lost‘ (Tuesdays at 9/8c) kicked off its final season by yes, answering a question here or there, but it also introduced a slew of brand-new players and sure-to-be-bedeviling mysteries. We coaxed some Season 6 insight from Michael Emerson, who deliciously portrays the mightily fallen Benjamin Linus. Plus, which on-screen moment did the Emmy winning cast member find to be “unbelievable” in its shock value?

After “NotLocke” (aka the Smoke Monster) orchestrated Jacob’s death, why didn’t he just turn around and kill Ben?
That’s a good question and I wondered it myself. But there is a reason why he can’t do that.

Does Ben suspect he has done a bad thing by killing Jacob?
I really don’t think Ben indulges in regrets. We’ve seen him make huge, possibly bad choices all through his life, but he just keeps moving forward. It may not be a good trait, but it is his.

We like to assign the trait of “good” to Jacob, in contrast to the apparently evil “Man in Black.” Yet Jacob, with his dismissive “What about you?” comment to Ben, came off as, well, a uncompassionate tool. Maybe he’s not quite as good as we believe?
That’s what I think, also – or at least his agenda is more complicated than we can know. It’s certainly not as simple as we thought. And yes, [Jacob] rather begs for his own death in a way.

With his dying breath, Jacob famously said to NotLocke, “They’re coming.” How long until we find out who “they” are?
It will be a while, unless I’m missing something. I’m not yet sure what that remark means. ['Lost' was filming its 13th episode at the time of this interview.]

Might we see Ben in the “flash-sideways” reality where Flight 815 arrived in Los Angeles safely?
Oh…. That’s a hard one to answer because these dimensions of time and space are… porous. And I think that’s about as much as I should say.

‘Lost’s Mysterious “Man in Black” Is Back

I’m going to name three of your ‘Lost’ cast mates. You tell me what you’ll remember most about working with each. Let’s start with Terry O’Quinn (Locke).
Breathless moments of danger in small spaces.

Naveen Andrews (Sayid).
Terror.

And Elizabeth Mitchell (Juliet).
A great dinner companion.

Which scene was the most memorable to shoot?
They fall into different categories – the dramatic, the humorous, and the absurd. My favorite light-hearted scene is cooking dinner for Juliet; it was so much fun, so out of character and so absurdly domestic of Benjamin. And in my entire life as an actor I will never forget shooting the scene where John Locke is trying to hang himself, I talk him out of it, and then I strangle him. Unbelievable.

What’s one thing you won’t miss about the ‘Lost’ experience? Jorge Garcia has mentioned Hawaii’s mosquitoes, Daniel Dae Kim spoke of having to learn Korean at the last minute….
I won’t miss guns, explosions, and horseback riding.

‘Lost’ Star: Final Season Answers “Major Questions”

What do you hope to do next – another series regular TV gig right off bat, return to the stage…?
I think it would be nice to take a little break from the routine of television and mix it up for a little while. Maybe I could finagle my way into a little part in a movie, or do a play back in New York. I sure hope I get a change of pace – I’d like to do something funny.

You have a “connection” over at ‘True Blood,’ maybe you could do a one-shot over there.
I am known to some people over there, yes. [Emerson's wife, Carrie Preston, plays Merlotte's waitress Arlene on the HBO series.] When are they going to call me up and put me to work, I do not know. [Laughs]

'Lost' Exclusive: Michael Emerson and Terry O'Quinn on Emmys, comedic moments, and that strangulation scene

by Dan Snierson

Over the course of pop culture history, there have been many terrific two-man teams. Abbott and Costello. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Beavis and Butthead. To that illustrious list, may we submit for your consideration: Benjamin Linus and John Locke. Together, the prickly pair have driven much of the Lost saga — and the on-screen chemistry between Michael Emerson and Terry O’Quinn has been a key source of entertainment, dramatic and comedic. (Emerson and O’Quinn are the only two actors to date who have won Emmys on the show, most recently with Emerson snagging the trophy for best supporting actor in the fall.) Look back no further than last season, which brought us “Dead is Dead,” the episode that featured a tense and humorous jousting match between the two rivals and, of course, “The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham,” which yielded one of the great moments in Lost history: Ben talks Locke out of hanging himself…before strangling him to death!

Last fall, while visiting the Lost production in Hawaii, we wanted to experience the Ben and Locke Show live, so we corralled Emerson and O’Quinn for a wide-ranging interview. You will be reading — and seeing — more of our adventures over the next few months at EW.com and in the magazine. In fact, this week’s issue of EW contains an informative Q&A with Emerson and O’Quinn. Although we can’t give you any season 6 teasers (yet), you’ll receive a peek into their working relationship and genuine friendship. In the meantime, enjoy a few bonus quotes from the mad men of Lost. —Jeff Jensen and Dan Snierson

On O’Quinn realizing last season that he wasn’t really playing John Locke anymore:
O’QUINN: There was a sort of gradual awareness, and then [with the season finale], a sort of a sad acceptance of the fact that John Locke was dead. I thought, “Well, wow, I guess I’m not playing the same person anymore. That role on Lost is over.”

On whether the new Locke is good or evil:
O’QUINN: Boy, they sure are loading it up to look as if John Locke is the devil. And then that makes me suspicious. Right? Apparently I’m playing somebody who can look like John Locke. It was easier playing this same person last year when I didn’t know who it was. Now it’s hard to not load things up and become arch, be heavy.

On playing comedic moments:
EMERSON: I began to feel last season that I was in my own little private comedy. He was very sarcastic all the time. There aren’t a lot of characters you can just bounce jokes off of — Jack’s not a big knee-slapper — but there’s a special kind of Lost humor, where we talk glibly about very grave matters.
O’QUINN: When somebody’s pointing a gun at you every episode, eventually it’s like, “Whatever. You’re not gonna shoot me. Or if you do, I’ll live.”
EMERSON: [to O’Quinn] Was it you that said, “On Lost, you can’t ask somebody to pass the salt without pulling a gun”?
O’QUINN: I don’t think so. Maybe it was you.
EMERSON: I want it to be you.

On shooting the pivotal scene in which Ben strangles Locke:
EMERSON: It was long, slow work that day…. It was very quiet on the set. The crew was gripped by the scene and fully supported the work in front of the camera.
O’QUINN: I remember prepping with you for the sequence. We were sitting in our chairs, going over the dialogue, but Michael has a hard time just sitting in his chair. So, pretty soon, I’m still sitting in my chair, and he’s on his knees in front of me, doing that moment where Ben begs Locke not to kill himself, and the whole time, the crew is just walking by us, not looking at us or saying a word.

On whether they’ll miss working together:
O’QUINN: I haven’t told Michael this yet, but I think about it a lot. A working relationship that is this smooth, it’s as unusual as a relationship with a loved one. At least for me. After Lost is over, I’m going to get a hold of somebody and say, “Write something for us.” I just want to keep doing this.
EMERSON: I don’t think it’s the last time we’ll be playing opposite each other.

On how much they worry about meeting fan expectations:
O’QUINN: Not as much as it worries [exec producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse] and those guys, I’m sure. What worries me is what I have control over. And that’s my performance. And if in fact the whole thing is a big laugh and it turns out badly and everything, I don’t anticipate feeling terrible about it. Because every day to me is work. And it’s given a lot already.
EMERSON: I’m also getting easier with the idea of secrets, of walking away with things unanswered, with mysteries left open. That’s all right, too.

Happy Birthday to the Bug Eyed Little Freak!

Biography for
Michael Emerson

Date of Birth
7 September 1954, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, USA

Height
5' 8" (1.73 m)

Spouse
Carrie Preston (5 September 1998 - present)

Trivia
Is a stage actor who makes occasional films.

In 1995, he graduated from the prestigious Professional Actor Training M. F. A. program run jointly by the Alabama Shakespeare Festival and The University of Alabama Department of Theater and Dance.

Graduate of Drake University, where he earned a degree in Theater Arts.

Worked as a freelance illustrator for publications like The Boston Globe and The New York Times.

On "Lost" (2004), he played Ben Linus, the son of Roger Linus, played by Jon Gries, who is actually 3 years the junior of Emerson. The age difference is explicable because Roger is first seen in flashbacks to Ben's birth and childhood. Ben's mother was played by Carrie Preston, who in addition to being (like Gries) about the same age as Emerson, is also his real-life wife.

Emerson graduated from South Tama County High School in Tama, Iowa.

Personal Quotes
I've had the blessing of doing classic plays on Broadway, which was one of my great dreams forever.

It worries me a little bit the reach and power of TV. More people saw me in "The Practice" (1997) than will ever see me in all the stage plays I ever do. Which is sort of humbling. Or troubling. Or both.

[about doing Unfaithful (2002)] You work four days, and then one line is left when you see it. Demoralizing.

A better question might be what is it about those characters that appeals to audiences, or an even better question is why do audiences perceive them as creepy? Let's say I got to the studio one day and I play it in neutral - I don't make any judgment about the character or the material or anything. And then when it comes out and it's all chopped together and there's music and stuff, people go 'my God that's scary!' But I don't know what the scary element is. I don't know if it's something in me. I don't know if it's in the playing of it or the perceiving of it. It's an interesting issue, though. - asked why he's drawn to playing "creepy" characters
