Making lists is always dangerous, but it's just so darn fun. And while 2008 might not have been the best year for television, that didn't stop it from having its share of characters who continue to captivate on the small screen -- some of them having break-out performances this season. So here's a run at the Top 12 TV characters of 2008. Who were your favorites this year?
7. Ben Linus (Michael Emerson) -- "Lost"
Just when we thought we knew Ben as a power-obsessed dictator, it turns out he might have a less devious agenda after all. Or does he? Michael Emerson does a fine job of keeping everyone guessing, and he's one of the reasons "Lost" was able to reinvigorate itself. Plus, there's Ben's dry humor, his moments of bug-eyed homicidal tirades and the fact that he's the perfect foil for John Locke (Terry O'Quinn).
