Setting up the rest of the season
This episode was a great way to reunite Sawyers group with Jack’s group and getting them all into the Dharma Initiative. It also reestablished the Quadrangle and the rivalry between Jack & Sawyer and between Kate & Juliet. I loved their stare down. It also established Radinsky which was awesome; What Sun & Frank will be doing and Young Ben and a promise of learning more about him.
Sawyer and the Dharma Jumpsuit of Many Colors (Well three if you count the black & white Dharma Patch)
Jack & Sawyer’s discussion reminded me of the story of Joseph of Egypt. His brothers sold him to Egypt. Joseph became a slave and went through many hard years. Eventually he worked himself out of slavery and became the Pharaohs second in command and helped the country get out of a drought. Because of Egypt’s abundance Josephs brothers came to Joseph and asked for food. Joseph was angry and put them through some hard trials, but eventually he did forgive & save them.
Jack, Kate & Hurley left the island and because of that Sawyer and the others that were left behind went through nose bleeds death and other trials, but eventually stopped time jumping and rose to prominence in the Dharma Initiative. Now Jack, Kate & Sawyer are here and depending on Sawyer for help much like Joseph’s Brothers did to him.
Some say that Sawyer was harsh to Jack, but I look at it like this they were friends before Jack left and so Sawyer knows him pretty well. In season one there was the nice moment between them where Sawyer tells him about running into his Father. Season two Sawyer told Jack that he was the closest thing to a friend that he had on the island after Jack asked him why he was telling him about sex with Ana Lucia.
Before Jack left the island he was trudging across the island with his stitches for the operation breaking in order to save Hurley and help people get off the island. Sawyer knew that he was stubborn and determined to go through with things and told him that he wasn’t going to get to “Die Alone” and followed him. So Sawyers rebuke came from the fact that he knew that Jack would once again try to be a man of action and not think things out. Jack did have something important to do, but still needed Sawyers help to get to the right place before he could do it. I truly believe that Sawyer also rebuked him because he cared about Jack.
A Bit Of A Journey Ahead Of You
Christian told Sun that she had a bit of a journey before her. My only guess is that it has to do with getting the group back to 2007 because he knows that Widmore will eventually figure out how to return to the island and it will need saving probably something to do with the Frozen Donkey Wheel. Or maybe something else that would bring them back.
Ben Meet your Future Torturer
When I saw young Ben with Old Ben being on the island I began to think, what if Old Ben figures out how to travel to 1977 and communicate with young Ben? Maybe that was how Ben has always been in the know about everything? Kind of like how in Back to the Future 2 Old Biff gave betting information to Young Biff, but without the alternate realities.
