Miles
This episode was great because not only did we get a good character piece on Miles, but we also got a number of pieces to the puzzle of Lost. In the hurried pace of the last few seasons there hasn’t been a lot of time for flashbacks. I love the hurried pace and all of the answers, but it’s the backstories that have given Lost its heart. The scene where Miles visited the Father of the football player reminded me of Claire’s flashback in season 1 where she visits the psychic Malkin. With Miles there were times where he was legitimately demonstrating his powers while others like with the Father where he was trying to fool someone. When Claire visited Malkin he made a number of predictions and we are still left wondering if the predictions were truthful or not.
Miles & Hurley
I loved the moments with Miles & Hurley, the duo of Charlie & Hurley has been long missed and while Miles is surlier then Charlie the two do make a good pairing. Like how Hurley tried to get Miles & Candle to have bonding time and when Miles & Hurley were talking about their “Superpowers”
Secret Societies & Inner Circles
There was a heavy underlying theme of Secret Societies in this episode. First was Dharma’s Inner Circle. Dharma was covering up a lot from the Others with the construction of the stations to covering up the properties of the Swan and the death of a worker.
Then there’s Bram kidnapping Miles and asking him the secret questions about the shadow of the statue. I have some ideas on who he works for, but I’ll save that for the theories section.
There was even the big Oceanic 815 cover bought back to light when Miles was taking Naomi’s test. Which still hasn’t been answered conclusively wither it was Ben or Charles that set that up.
