Love Vs Fate
Kate went through a lot while off the island. She became an adoptive Mother to Aaron, had someone try to take him, almost lose him in a store (which I know from experience can be a scary situation) then finally decided to give him up to his Grandmother. I think this had a great effect on Kate in making her decision to try and help Little Ben. That and talking with Roger, although knowing that Roger had been beating on Ben made me laugh when he told her that he had tried his best raising Ben.
But unfortunately emotional decisions are not always the best choices. Jack finally resigned himself to the fact that fate is going to play out no matter what happens. (Plus the fact that Ben had put them through a lot of bad stuff). When Kate told Jack that she didn’t like the new you he correctly retorted that she didn’t even like the old him. Reminds me of last season when Sawyer chided her about bouncing back & forth between Jack & Sawyer.
Back to the Future
I loved it when Hurley was staring at his hand waiting for it to disappear and Miles finally this season reverted back to his normal snarky self for the first time. But I love how characters like Hurley, Sawyer & now Miles can be a mouth piece to what the audience is thinking and since Darlton write the scripts long before we see the episodes that’s quite something for them to foresee problems that far in advance. I think though that the most important part is where Miles is explaining to Hurley about who would remember who and why.
But it’s left ambiguous a bit at the end on whether Ben had remembered Sayid shooting him when he was a child. Now I know that Richard told Sawyer & Kate that healing Ben would make him forget things, but with the way that Miles ended up stumped at the end it makes me wonder if Ben did remember. I remember after Sayid tortured Ben and Jack dragged him out Ben had a creepy smile on his face. At the time it made me just think that he knew that he had the upper hand and that he was in reality an Other. But what if it was also recognition that he knew he had run into these people in his childhood and that things would still turn out alright. What if this knowledge proved to him that by getting captured by Jack and the group that he would survive it and get operated on? Ben knew that fate would save him no matter what he did just like Jack knew the exact same thing.
A few random thoughts
I also think that Cassidy was speaking incorrectly when talking to Kate about Sawyer. She said that he didn’t care about her and that he jumped because he was afraid. But she said that while sitting in a nice home that Sawyer’s money had provided without her knowing, which you would think that if a mystery bank account had been given to her that she would at least be a little curious about the giver. Granted Sawyer might not have been ready to be with ether Cassidy or Kate, but just because it’s right in her mind doesn’t make it totally correct.
Kate’s Universal Blood
Kate giving Blood reminded me of When Jack had to give blood to Boone when he was dying after not finding a donor of the same blood type. But unfortunately Kate was off retrieving alcohol from Sawyer & helping Claire give birth otherwise Jack could have used her and not almost fainted.
