ShareWell LOST fans, how are we all feeling today? I, for one, am feeling a tad sleep deprived, having stayed up to watch LOST live as it aired on the East Coast; due to my unfortunate GMT time zone and post-premiere-watching hyperactivity, I didn’t get to bed until 5.30am. (Oh, but it was SO worth it!)
So while we recover from our LOST hangover and try to get to grips with last night’s revelations, let’s put our 16 questions to Anil of The ODI, your “No. 1 source for exclusive TV and movie spoilers and news.” Follow The ODI on Twitter here or become a fan on Facebook.
Q: How long have you been watching Lost? If you’ve been watching since the pilot, can you remember your initial reaction to it?
A: I started watching from the pilot episode. I missed approximately the first 15 minutes and had no idea about Jack opening his eye and all of the action until a couple of days later when ABC had a special encore presentation. I was in awe and knew right away it would be a hit. I knew JJ’s work and was a big Alias fan, so I was also hoping this would be a hit.
Q: How did Lost get its polar bear claws into you? What about it got you hooked?
A: I think Smokey in the jungle was a big mystery in the pilot and everyone thought, No way – a dinosaur? But Walkabout really set everything up for me. The reveal of Locke being in a wheelchair was just genius. The show’s format and character driven plot was key for me.
Q: Favorite character?
A: This is a hard one and usually I would say it is between a few people but Michael Emerson portrayal of Ben is awesome! Smokey is kinda cool as well.
Q: Least favorite character?
A: Harper – I had to dig deep for that one Okay, major character or Lostie…perhaps Michael because of his screams for….WAAALLLLT!!!
Q: Favorite episode or season?
A: S3 Finale or The Constant – S1 and S5
Q: Least favorite episode or season?
A: Stranger in a Strange Land by a long shot.
Q: Are you Team Jack or Team Locke?
A: Team Jocke. I think I have a little of both of them in me.
Q: If you had to be one of the following, which would it be and why: an 815 survivor, an Other or a member of the Dharma Initiative?
A: 815 Survivor, because Others seem to just sit around on the island and are told what to do and Dharma folk might be totally cool and I love the hippie thing they have going on, but they are purged eventually.
Q: Which character’s demise were you most upset to see happening?
A: Rise and fall of Locke seems to be a bit disappointing because he started off so cool and mysterious.
Q: Tell us a bit about your site/podcast.
A: The site was a total fluke. I was just like all the other Losties out there posting in forums (started on MySpace), but eventually my friends there convinced me to start posting the info in a blog and eventually I did. I was instantly getting 1000s of views and one day in order to keep stuff organized better I started the site and now it has grown to cover more than just LOST. I have had a lot of help from my good friend DarkUFO and we help each other out by watching each other’s site when we are sleeping or away. The podcast was also started totally out of the blue. I had an initial podcast partner named Ron who was a buddy from MySpace and when he decided he did not want to do it anymore, I asked Karen to step in and she did. The podcast has been steadily growing and we also now have Vozzek69 the LOST recapper from Dark’s site on the podcast as well. [When the show ends] the site will not go anywhere as we cover other shows (and movies) now and the LOST stuff will always stay there.
Q: What are you favorite online Lost communities, blogs, podcasts, etc.?
A: I can’t forget my roots and my friends on MySpace. I am also a member of Lost-Forum and post from time to time there. Of course we have the community on my site and Dark’s which bleeds into the SpoilerTV Forums.
Q: Tell us something interesting/scary/amusing/downright weird about how your time in the Lost fan-verse has changed your life.
A: I love to sleep and well I barely get any of it any more! However, I love it with a passion and would not change it. The best thing from the fan-verse is just all the cool friendships that I have developed.
Q: You’re in an elevator with someone who has never seen as much as a second of Lost. You got on in the lobby and you’re both headed to the fifteenth floor. How do you convince them to buy and watch all the DVDs before the elevator gets there?
A: I tell them to watch the pilot episode and if they are not hooked after that episode I would give them $815.
Q: Has watching Lost sparked any creative inspiration in your life, i.e. writing, media, art, etc.?
A: Well just the blog and podcast. Used to do some fan art and videos when I had more time.
Q: How do you plan on combating PLDS (Post Lost Distress Syndrome) or do you think we’re all destined to end up continuously re-watching our Lost: The Complete Series Ultimate Box Set for the rest of our lives?
A: I think several fans have discussed making a LA (LOST Anonymous) and well if it happens I will be there every week!
Q: What do you think will be Lost’s legacy?
A: That it changed TV and the internet forever, created a generation of spoiler loving fans and it will go down as the best scripted drama af all time.
