Comic-Con, Here We Come
As you read this, Jen Chaney and I are about 30,000 feet above flyover country on our way to Comic-Con: the yearly pop-culture fest that has become the must-attend event for fans of comic books, action/sci-fi movies -- pretty much most cool stuff.
From the first peek at upcoming big box office hopefuls to revelations from the best show on TV ("Lost"), there is so much going on at this year's convention (see the full schedule for yourselves) that it would be criminal to reprint it here and use up all that valuable post.com bandwidth. Below, Jen and I share what we're most excited about:
"Lost": At the top of both Jen's and my own list is the annual "Lost" panel. Show creators Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof have chosen Comic-Con to reveal juicy tidbits about the upcoming season in the past couple of years. Will they come through with yet another game-changer for us? And what cast members will be along for the trip? We hope to live-blog from Saturday's panel and check out the interactive experience offered at the Octagon Global Recruiting booth.

Celebs galore: I'm particularly excited about my scheduled Corey Feldman interview -- but this year's Comic-Con promises appearances from: Keanu Reeves, Ludacris, Samuel L. Jackson, Seth Rogen, James Franco, Mark Wahlberg, Jennifer Connolly, Dakota Fanning, Djimon Hounsou, Robert Rodriguez, Rose McGowan, Dwayne Johnson, Carla Gugino, Anna Paquin, Gerard Butler, Guy Ritchie, Dan Aykroyd, Eva Mendes, David Boreanaz, Emily Deschanel, Kiefer Sutherland, Neil Patrick Harris, John Cho, Kal Penn, the cast of "Heroes," Rainn Wilson, Bill Nighy, Sarah Silverman, Steve Coogan and Elisabeth Shue. And that's just the group that has already been announced.
"Afro Samurai: Resurrection": Not only will I be one of the first to see the latest installment in this manga series, but I'm skedded to interview star Samuel L. Jackson. And, if I'm lucky, meet series co-creator The RZA. Wu-Tang forever, yo!
"Pineapple Express" panel: Sure, it's another movie about stoners, but I'd endure more than a few toke jokes to sit in the same room with Hollywood It-boy Judd Apatow and stars Seth Rogen ("Knocked Up") and James Franco (Daniel Desario!).

I am scheduled to get some face time with the King of Comic-Con himself, Mr. Kevin Smith, who is participating in, roughly, 876 panels this year. He'll also be promoting his next flick, "Zak and Miri Make a Porno," starring the aforementioned Seth Rogen. It's already been slapped with an NC-17 rating so any glimpses of it should be, um, provocative.
Friday's "Watchmen" panel may be the talker of Comic-Con, what with the film adaptation of the graphic novel being on the cover of Entertainment Weekly, not to mention getting buzz courtesy of the trailer that ran last weekend before screenings of "The Dark Knight." Even if I don't get a seat in Hall H -- a distinct possibility since I'm also supposed to interview some of the dudes and 'bots from "Mystery Science Theater 3000" before that -- I look forward to standing in line next to some uber-excited fans of The Comedian and Dr. Manhattan.
The Exhibit Hall will be overflowing with people and products of all kinds, from game companies promoting handheld versions of "Guitar Hero" to toy manufacturers hawking action figures to DVD studios eager to talk up their slate of upcoming releases. Mmm ... pop culture commerce.
Finally, I'm just putting this out there right now: If I leave Comic-Con without seeing someone dressed in Hobbit regalia -- preferably with an infant dressed as Gollum in tow -- I will be very, very sad. Comic-Con attendees, don't let me down!
