Lost: Don’t Fear the Reaper

Fans of Lost cast member Henry Ian Cusick can expect to see him soon as the end incarnate. Cusick has been slated to step in as a replacement for Mandy Patinkin, and appearing in an all-new Dead Like Me movie that will be heading straight for a DVD release. The project’s filming schedule remains in question, though it is set to begin shooting in the near future. On the other hand, other sources have stated that it’s already underway. There also hasn’t been any announcement yet about how this might impact Cusick’s own schedule for continuing to work on Lost.

During the development and production of the movie, Patinkin was unavailable to reprise his role, so another new head reaper character was created instead. According to talks with the production staff, the new character will also apparently be central to the plot of the film, with his name being Cameron Kane. The character is also implied to be professional and serious about their business of death. Other roles have also been recast, with Daisy now set to be played by television actress and Aussie native Sarah Wynter. Daisy was originally portrayed by Laura Harris, who has previously worked together with Wynter on the show 24.

Another rumored plot detail is that there will be romantic tension between Daisy and Cameron. Devotees of the original Dead Like Me can also look forward to the return of series regulars Ellen Muth, Jasmin Guy, and Callum Blue as their respective characters. While some have speculated that his own character Desmond Hume in Lost would have had to be killed off in order to accommodate his filming schedule for the movie, the premiere date of the show’s next season is still a long time away, allowing its cast more time for other projects. The Dead Like Me movie will be directed by Stephen Herek, who has worked on The Mighty Ducks, Mr. Holland’s Opus, and Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure.

The "Dead Like Me" movie has been completed for about a year. Cusick filmed it during the hiatus between Seasons 3 and 4.
